Bermuda Commercial Bank (BCB) is in the middle of a major technology and infrastructure transformation, and we are looking for a Cloud Data Engineer who wants to be at the heart of it.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Data Engineer with a strong background in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, database management, cloud data architecture, and data migration. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience managing both on-premise SQL Servers and cloud-based data platforms (Azure/AWS). A background in banking or financial services, cloud certifications, and strong communication and collaboration skills is highly preferred.

This role involves end-to-end responsibility for managing, optimizing, migrating, and supporting enterprise-level data infrastructure, ensuring high availability, quality, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer SQL Server databases (on-premise and cloud-based), including installation, configuration, upgrades, security, and performance.
  • Conduct performance tuning, SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, and capacity management.
  • Implement and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using SQL, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Databricks, or similar platforms.
  • Design and implement data models (OLTP, OLAP, Dimensional Models) for analytics, reporting, and data warehousing.
  • Manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, such as Always On, Clustering, Log Shipping, and Backup Strategies.
  • Lead and support database migrations, cloud transformation, and modernization initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain cloud data environments in Azure and/or AWS, including Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, AWS RDS, Redshift, S3, Lambda, IAM, and Glue.
  • Manage and monitor cloud-based data solutions ensuring cost optimization, compliance, data security, and governance.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Argent, Grafana, SolarWinds, etc.).
  • Support and maintain data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and automation workflows.

Governance, Security & Support:

  • Implement best practices for data security, access control (RBAC), encryption, monitoring, and compliance (GDPR, SOX, PCI, etc.).
  • Provide on-call support, troubleshooting, and incident management for data systems in production environments.
  • Maintain documentation, SOPs, knowledge bases, and assist in cross-team collaboration, KT, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with Application Support, BI, Infrastructure, and Business teams.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server administration (2012-2019) — DBA background essential. Proven expertise in performance tuning, optimization, indexing, query tuning, and database housekeeping. Experience with Azure and/or AWS Data Services, including Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, AWS RDS, Redshift, and S3. Proficiency in ETL/ELT tools, scripting, and data pipeline development (Python, PowerShell, SSIS, ADF, Databricks). Strong knowledge of data migration, data warehouse design, ETL frameworks, and automation. Experience with cloud monitoring, backup solutions, HA/DR, and resource optimization. Familiarity with data governance, metadata, cataloging, and compliance frameworks.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making. Experience working in agile, multi-disciplinary teams. Highly organized and proactive with attention to detail.

Preferred Certifications: ITIL or equivalent support/service management certification (beneficial)

Preferred Industry Experience: Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, or Regulatory environments. Experience with sensitive data, compliance-driven operations, and enterprise-grade systems.
