A leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) is looking for a Senior Commercial Manager to lead the commercial delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK. This is a high-impact role within a fast-growing company at the forefront of the energy transition.

You’ll be responsible for managing the full commercial lifecycle of BESS schemes, from pre-contract strategy and procurement through to post-contract delivery and final account. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in large infrastructure, water, or heavy civils, with deep experience using NEC forms of contract.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies for BESS projects
  • Lead procurement processes including tender preparation, evaluation, and contract negotiation
  • Provide commercial input into project feasibility, risk assessments, and cost planning
  • Draft and review NEC-based contracts and subcontracts
  • Support bid teams with pricing, contract terms, and commercial risk mitigation
  • Manage contract administration and change control processes
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow
  • Lead commercial reporting and ensure accurate cost/value reconciliation
  • Resolve contractual disputes and manage claims in line with NEC procedures
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and legal teams
Requirements:
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in a commercial role within infrastructure, water, or heavy civils
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts
  • Experience delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills
  • Passion for renewable energy and the transition to net zero
