This is for a leading UK developer, owner, and operator of battery energy storage, flexible generation, pumped storage hydro, and green hydrogen assets. Since 2015, from a blank canvas, this business has delivered 2.2GW of flexible and storage capacity, with a further 12GW already consented to. This makes them the clear sector leader in their primary asset which is BESS and an anticipated 600% growth rate over the course of the next five to seven years.
Role Summary
The Grid Compliance Engineer is a newly created role within their Grid Team, reflecting the rapid expansion of our asset portfolio and the increasing complexity of GB Grid Code compliance.
You will lead the compliance lifecycle from design through energisation, commissioning, and operational handover across BESS, flexible generation, hydrogen, and pumped storage projects. A key part of this role is establishing new workflows, processes, and data pathways that integrate seamlessly with project management, engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations functions.
You will ensure timely achievement of the industry‑critical milestones:
- EON – Energisation Operational Notification
- ION – Interim Operational Notification
- FON – Final Operational Notification
Grid Code & G99 Compliance
- Lead the end‑to‑end Grid Code/G99 compliance process for all new and existing Statera assets.
- Prepare and manage submission of UDFS, compliance statements, ENA forms, and other required documentation.
- Coordinate and witness compliance testing, including protection, control, dynamic performance, and interface tests.
- Facilitate compliance and commissioning panel meetings with NGESO, Transmission Owners, and DNOs.
- Ensure timely achievement of EON, ION, and FON milestones.
- Design and implement new workflows, procedures, and documentation frameworks for grid compliance across the project lifecycle.
- Develop processes that integrate with project management, engineering design, construction, commissioning, SCADA/controls, and operations teams.
- Establish data flows and reporting structures to ensure compliance evidence is captured, traceable, and auditable.
- Identify opportunities to automate or streamline compliance activities.
- Review electrical studies including load flow, fault level, dynamic stability, protection coordination, and connection studies.
- Ensure all designs meet the GB Grid Code, relevant standards, and Statera’s internal technical requirements.
- Support development of technical specifications, interface schedules, and metering requirements.
- Work closely with project managers through design, construction, energisation, and commissioning phases.
- Provide technical leadership on grid connection implementation, system registration, metering operator appointment, and regulatory accreditation (Ofgem, NGESO, Elexon).
- Ensure project delivery meets Statera’s standards for safety, quality, budget, and schedule.
- Ensure all compliance documentation, test records, and approvals are complete and auditable before handover.
- Support operational teams with ongoing compliance, modifications, and Grid Code change assessments.

- Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly with NGESO, TOs, and DNOs.
- Experience with EHV (132kV–400kV) connections.
- Knowledge of battery storage, hydrogen electrolysers, or flexible generation technologies.
- Familiarity with Balancing Mechanism processes, SCADA/communications architecture, and metering frameworks.
- Chartered or working toward Chartered Engineer status (IET).
- Opportunity to shape a new function within a rapidly growing Grid Team.
- Work on nation‑defining energy projects supporting the UK’s net‑zero transition.
- Competitive salary, bonus, pension, and benefits package.
- Professional development and support toward chartership.
