A leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) specialising in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is seeking a Grid Connection Compliance Manager to support the delivery of utility-scale energy storage projects across the UK. This contract role focuses specifically on ensuring compliance with National Grid ESO requirements and grid code obligations throughout the lifecycle of BESS projects.
Role Overview
The Grid Connection Compliance Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of National Grid compliance, from application through to energisation. This includes interpreting and applying the Grid Code, liaising with National Grid ESO, and ensuring that all technical submissions, models, and testing procedures meet regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead compliance activities for BESS grid connections with National Grid ESO, ensuring alignment with the Grid Code and Connection and Use of System Code (CUSC).
- Manage the preparation and submission of compliance documentation, including compliance statements, power system studies, and EMT/PSSE models.
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams and external consultants to deliver accurate and timely technical submissions.
- Act as the primary point of contact with National Grid ESO for compliance-related matters, including Operational Notification (ON) and Final Operational Notification (FON) processes.
- Oversee the delivery of compliance testing, including frequency response, fault ride-through, and reactive power capability.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure internal processes and project designs remain compliant with evolving National Grid requirements.
- Support project teams during commissioning and energisation phases to ensure compliance milestones are met.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing grid compliance for utility-scale BESS or renewable energy projects connected to the transmission network.
- In-depth knowledge of the UK Grid Code, CUSC, and National Grid ESO compliance processes.
- Strong understanding of compliance testing protocols and commissioning requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. Chartered status is advantageous.
