We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced full-time Senior Mental Health Act Administrator to support in the provision of an effective administration service within our busy Mental Health Act Team.

The Mental Health Act Administration team deliver both an efficient and effective service, ensuring that the Trust is fully compliant with the relevant aspects of the MHA 1983 and the Code of Practice 2015. The successful candidate will work as part of a motivated team supervising the Mental Health Act Administrators and ensuring the smooth running of the MHA administration office.

The role will involve, amongst other duties; corresponding with patients and their relatives, ensuring that accurate records are maintained, collating data and support reporting thus enabling the data to be used to its maximum potential. In addition, the role involves communicating professionally both within Berkshire Healthcare and externally with partner organisations; with multi-disciplinary teams, patients and carers, advocates, solicitors, the Mental Health Tribunal, Care Quality Commission, the police and social services and other public bodies.

  • The post holder will be responsible for leading and supervising the Mental Health Act Administrators in the legal administration of the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983. This role requires a high degree of planning and organisational skills to meet specific and tight deadlines.
  • The post holder will be expected to work on the delivery of an efficient and fully compliant Mental Health Act administration service.
  • The role requires the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff throughout the Trust as well as partner organisations.
  • To be available and lead as a resource to all professional staff seeking information/advice on the MHA 1983 and Code of Practice.
  • To support patients in understanding their rights under the MHA, in conjunction with line manager.
  • To supervise the work of the MHA Administrators and offer advice, guidance, and coaching as required.
  • You must be willing to learn and to show initiative.
  • The successful postholder will be based in Reading, at Prospect Park Hospital.
  • This is an office-based role and the hours of work are full-time (37.5): 9am to 5pm.
