Step Up to Lead: Occupational Therapist (Senior OT) – West Berkshire Community Hospital
Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist with a focus on physical health? Do you want to advance your career into a leadership role while remaining hands-on with patient care? We are seeking a passionate Senior OT to join our team at West Berkshire Community Hospital Inpatients Unit, a friendly and supportive community-based physical health service.
The unit includes two wards aiding adult patients in recovering from surgery or acute medical conditions as they prepare to return home. This position is offered as a secondment or fixed-term contract, presenting a great development opportunity for aspiring leaders.
What makes this role different?
- Support a team of OTs while managing a smaller personal caseload. Your focus will be on mentoring junior staff and managing complex clinical cases.
- Collaborate for better care: Work closely with Therapy Team Leads to develop and improve patient care.
- Flexible working: Enjoy standard Monday to Friday hours, with flexible and part-time options from 30 hours per week. Core hours are 8am – 4pm, with current no weekend working, but this may change.
- Clinical expertise: Lead the Occupational Therapy contribution to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on inpatient wards, supporting and guiding the team.
- Plan and deliver: Provide Occupational Therapy for patients with diverse physical conditions, taking lead responsibility for their care plans.
- Manage caseloads autonomously: Conduct assessments, develop patient-centered care plans, including for highly complex needs.
- Work within the MDT: Participate in case conferences, discharge planning, and ensure confidentiality and data protection standards are maintained.
- Supervision and training: Support Band 5 Occupational Therapists, OT assistants, and multi-therapy assistants through supervision, appraisals, and training.
- Professional development: Provide training and support to the MDT in your specialist area.
- Lead service improvements: Implement changes in clinical practice, plan, develop, evaluate services, and manage projects like audits and research.
- Build key relationships: Collaborate with healthcare teams across acute, secondary, primary care, GPs, community teams, social services, and others.
