Requirement for the role is to work on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are looking for a Phlebotomist to join our very well-established All Age Eating Disorders Service. We have a part time (22.5 hours per week) vacancy to work 3 days a week - Wed - Friday.

You will play an important role, under the guidance of a qualified GP, providing and delivering phlebotomy, ECG and routine physical monitoring to child and adult patients referred to eating disorders and mental health services. You will provide quality care and support which enables patients to be supported with a recovery focus throughout their care episode, whilst promoting independence and protecting choice, dignity, privacy, and safety. All necessary training will be provided. Our service covers the county of Berkshire.

Main duties of the job

  • The postholder will be required to perform a range of venepuncture techniques and will work without direct supervision.
  • The postholder will be required to perform ECG and other routine physical monitoring observations.
  • The postholder is required to liaise with clinicians, other healthcare professionals including laboratory staff, with patients and their representatives and with commercial suppliers.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

  • GCSE English or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths or equivalent
  • European Computer Driving Licence
  • Continuous Professional Development
  • Fully trained in phlebotomy procedures.
  • Trained in ECG administration.

Previous Experience

  • Experience equivalent to NVQ Level 3
  • Able to perform phlebotomy procedures without direct supervision.
  • Previous Laboratory work experience
  • Work experience in a healthcare environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work accurately and quickly in an organised manner with attention to detail.
  • A good level of computer literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and individually.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and resolve conflict.
  • Good telephone manner

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel to multiple sites
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Awareness of data protection and confidentiality issues
  • Well presented, tidy in appearance
  • Must comply with Trust requirements for health.
  • Willingness to be flexible and vary working patterns in accordance with the needs of the service.
  • Ability to drive and have access to a car for work purposes.
