Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of National Property, UK to join our National Property, UK team in Manchester. Territories of focus include Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and South.
We are seeking an individual who is energized, passionate, collaborative and striving towards excellence. The successful candidate will have the necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to further build a profitable book of business within the Large Corporate and Middle Market segments. They will be comfortable leading an experienced underwriting team and working closely with product lines and across all functions. In addition, they will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline.
This position is a great fit for an experienced Property Underwriting Manager or a Senior Property Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and further develop a team of experienced underwriters in our Manchester office, fostering long-term growth, technical excellence, and a collaborative culture.
- Build and manage the Property book of business that is consistent with the team’s focus on profitable growth
- Establish, develop, and expand on broker and customer relationships including building out our business across the South region
- Build a target universe of in appetite business
- Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our partners
- Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating Respect, Integrity and Leadership in the marketplace
- Effectively communicate BHSI’s value proposition to brokers and customers
- Work closely with our in-house Risk Engineering and Claims teams to help create a positive and transparent experience for our customers
- Collaborate with teammates across all Product lines and functions including Operations, Claims, Actuarial, CUO office and Human Resources
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Strong technical skills in Property Underwriting including understanding deployment of Nett Capacity, Natural Catastrophe risk & modelling and profitability metrics
- Solid understanding of policy forms and coverage
- Network of strong broker and client relationships
- Collaborative and team-focused mentality
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Travel Required (principally UK)
- 10+ years of Commercial Property experience
- Degree or equivalent experience
