Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Analyst to join our European Actuarial Team. We are looking for an individual who has both an ability to excel and an excellence of character. This position will be based in our London office with a focus on our UK and European Executive & Professional Lines portfolio including Commercial Directors & Officers, Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions, Cyber and Transactional Liability; as well as the Marine and DUA portfolios. The tasks and responsibilities will grow in line with the maturity of the business and the candidate’s profile.
The role is open for candidates pursuing the Actuarial exam qualification. Applications are welcomed from recent graduates as well as from individuals with relevant actuarial or analytical experience. Job title and compensation will be commensurate with the experience and exam level of the individual.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Price individual large insurance policies and be the business partner for underwriters in this process.
- Work with the data compilation team to ensure high quality data capture.
- Analyse claims and exposure data.
- Involvement in existing projects such as pricing model recalibration, pricing model enhancement.
- Provide general pricing support to the business across 9 countries in Europe, including technical assistance on pricing models, data quality issues and so on.
- Collaborate across functions and regions on the development and maintenance of actuarial pricing and reporting processes.
- Assist the underwriting community in benefiting from available reporting tools.
- Research and implementation of new pricing techniques.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or equivalent in actuarial studies, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
- Actuarial or analytical experience gained through academic study, internships, placements, or professional roles within insurance, actuarial, or data‑driven environments.
- Excellent skills in Excel and working knowledge in SQL, R and/or Python.
- An interest in data science concepts and analytical problem‑solving.
- Studying towards actuarial qualification, or intending to begin actuarial exams.
- Solid oral and written communication skills in English.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Strong desire to learn from and share knowledge with teammates.
