Berkmann Wine Cellars is the UK’s largest family-owned and family-run wine importer, proudly supplying an exceptional portfolio of wines to many of the nation’s most celebrated restaurants, hotels, and independent retailers. We are looking for an ambitious and inspiring Regional Sales Manager (RSM) to lead our South-West On-Trade Sales Team. This is a pivotal role responsible for driving profitable and sustainable growth across a strategically important region renowned for its vibrant premium restaurants, five star hotels and gastro pubs. As the RSM, you will not only deliver strong commercial results but also lead from the front — coaching, motivating, and developing your team to achieve excellence. Most of your time will be spent out in trade, supporting customers and empowering your team to succeed. You will play a key role in shaping and executing sales strategies, collaborating closely with the Head of Sales (Regions) and other business functions to maximise opportunities and resolve challenges swiftly.
The Role
- Lead and inspire – Manage and coach a team of Sales Account Managers, ensuring clear KPIs and strong personal development.
- Drive growth – Deliver both team and personal sales budgets, identifying and securing profitable, sustainable new business opportunities.
- Be out in trade – Spend a large amount of time with customers and alongside your team drive performance and build lasting partnerships.
- Shape strategy – Work closely with the Head of Sales (Regions) to create and activate innovative sales strategies across the region.
- Champion agency brands – Ensure our key wines are represented across the Independent On & Off Trade, maximising visibility and value for Berkmann Wine Cellars.
- Be an ambassador – Establish yourself as a respected and recognised figure within the region.
- Collaborate with internal teams – From marketing, finance and operations you will ensure a seamless customer experience.
About You
We are looking for an energetic, commercially sharp leader who combines sales expertise with a genuine passion for wine and hospitality.
Essential:
- Degree-level education, GCSE English and Maths minimum or equivalent.
- WSET Level 2 (minimum).
- Proven sales management experience with a track record of driving performance and growth in the wine industry or on-trade sector.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Track record of delivering profitable growth and building lasting customer relationships.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the South West on-trade landscape.
- Experience of using data to drive commercial success.
- Advanced level on MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Holds a UK Driving Licence (with no more than 6 points).
