We are a highly successful, family‑owned premium wine distributor representing award‑winning and iconic wines from around the world. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Site Transport Manager to lead our busy transport operation and deliver the exceptional service standards our customers expect. This is a hands‑on role responsible for managing daily transport office activity, liaising closely with our 3PL warehouse partner, and leading a team of approximately 25 drivers. You will ensure efficient dispatch and debrief processes, maintain high service levels, and drive a culture of accountability, professionalism and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the day‑to‑day transport office operation
- Leading, motivating and managing a team of circa 25 drivers
- Overseeing driver recruitment, onboarding and performance management
- Managing dispatch and driver debrief processes
- Working closely with our 3PL warehouse to ensure smooth delivery operations
- Delivering exceptional customer service standards
- Ensuring transport compliance, controls and operating procedures are maintained
- Monitoring and managing resources effectively to ensure alignment with budget
- Resolving operational issues quickly and proactively
- Proactive and solution‑focused approach, with the ability to identify issues quickly and implement effective resolutions
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering premium service standards
Knowledge, Experience and Skill
- Previous experience within transport, logistics or distribution operations
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Teams, Excel and POD/delivery management systems
- Good understanding of transport compliance, health & safety procedures, and operational risk management
- Proven people management experience, including recruitment, performance reviews, investigations and disciplinary processes
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Natural leadership qualities with the ability to motivate, coach and develop teams
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with drivers, customers and internal stakeholders
- Ability to build strong working relationships across Sales, Customer Services, Warehouse and Operations teams
- Calm and resilient under pressure, with strong decision‑making capability in a fast‑paced environment
- Proactive and solution‑focused approach, with the ability to identify issues quickly and implement effective resolutions
Working Pattern
DAY SHIFT Monday to Friday 9:30–18:30 (with 1‑hour unpaid break). At times, some overtime may be necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role. It may be necessary to work some Bank Holidays on a rota basis, and this is reimbursed in pay or time off in lieu.
