Experience in an Underwriting Assistant role.

  • Ideally educated to A Level standard (or higher).
  • High level of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Methodical, accurate and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at various levels, both verbally and in writing.

The Senior Underwriting Assistant is expected to take management responsibility for a team of offshore resources, manage their own portfolio of risk entry activity, and be flexible across classes of business. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Scaling up, training, and managing an outsourced processing team, including query resolution and adherence to KPIs, ensuring high levels of internal customer satisfaction.
  • Training and coordinating risk entry activities for a growing team of E&S UA resources, ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices.
  • Reporting lines will continue to be directly into the Underwriting teams based in the US.
  • Controlling risk data entry, ensuring information is appropriately stored and kept up-to-date, and obtaining additional information as needed.
  • Ensuring files are stored appropriately (Document Management).
  • Ensuring compliance with external and internal policies, procedures, regulations, standards, and market practices (Compliance/UW Control).
  • Monitoring income, chasing late payments and renewals, and preparing related statistics and reports (Credit Control).
  • Providing operational support for Peer Review.
  • Creating account analysis and reports.
  • Assisting with Delegated Underwriting processes.
  • Liaising with Exposure Management.
  • Chasing renewals.
  • Conducting research and process improvements.
  • Providing other ad hoc support to the Underwriting Operations Manager as required.
