We have an exciting opportunity for a CHAPS Controller to join our CHAPS Control team with Payment Services.
Payment Services is responsible for ensuring that Santander UK continues to deliver a compliant customer experience through a rapidly changing payments landscape the scope covers payments, cards and Open Banking. With regulation driving change and innovation, the team is leading the way on exciting challenges and new ways of helping our customers.
The CHAPS Controller is a specialised role, working within a multi-skilled and multi-disciplinary team, responsible for the operational management, development, user testing and control of the Santander CHAPS sterling payment application and payment flows to strict internal and Industry Scheme Rules.
The focus of this role will be supporting the bank with its Scheme obligations as a CHAPS Direct Participant, supporting the change management of CHAPS systems and applications, representing Santander at Industry forums and Working Groups whilst controlling the intra-day flow of CHAPS payments.

- Managing Santander UK CHAPS payments and throughput to meet Industry and internal service levels and compliance with the Bank of England CHAPS Reference Manual
- Ensuring the Intraday monitoring, control & reconciliation of the RTGS accounts at the Bank of England with the Santander payment scheduler, CopeStar, by working with Wholesale & Short Term Market middle offices and CFO.
- Executing User Testing and supporting the deployment of CopeStar and associated CHAPS Infrastructure, including BAU & new developments e.g. RTGS Renewal, Hardware & Software Upgrades
- Representing Santander UK in the day to day CHAPS relationship with the Bank of England, other CHAPS Direct Participants and at Bank of England CHAPS Scheme Committees and Industry forums
- Supporting the annual Bank of England CHAPS Compliance Scheme Attestation
- Producing Management Information for operational control and mandatory/regulatory reporting.
What youll bring.
- Expert understanding and detailed knowledge of the CHAPS sterling payment scheme, industry rules, regulations and procedures, including the CHAPS reference manual and associated scheme documentation.
- Operational knowledge and experience in operating a CHAPS payment scheduler systems e.g. CopeStar or similar systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of RTGS liquidity management, CLS and CREST
- Detailed understanding of SWIFT related payment schemes and market infrastructures β rules, regulations and procedures.
- Managing Stakeholder Relationships with the ability to liaise credibly with senior and executive management both internally and at Industry level.
It would be nice for you to have.
- Experience of conducting and managing system and user acceptance testing, including planning, resource management, incident management.
- Experience in negotiation and facilitation skills with experience of interfacing between operational, business and IT teams
What else you need to know.
Standard working hours will be on a shift pattern, between 05:30 β 19:00 Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week. You will be required to work some weekends, out of hours e.g. 3am, controlled starts to supporting internal infrastructure deployments, post implementation testing and mandatory industry Scheme testing
