A well-established UK manufacturer of custom cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and interconnect solutions is seeking a proactive Field Sales Engineer to join its growing commercial team. The company supplies high-quality, engineered interconnect products to a wide range of OEM and industrial markets, including aerospace, defence, automotive, medical, industrial automation, and telecommunications. Operating for several decades, the organisation is known for its technical capability, responsive customer service, and flexible in-house manufacturing, serving clients ranging from emerging technology firms to global engineering brands.
About the Role
As a Field Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for driving new business and supporting existing customers across the Midlands region. This is a customer-facing role that blends technical understanding with relationship-building, helping clients specify and develop cable assembly solutions tailored to their applications. You will have autonomy in managing your territory, identifying opportunities, visiting customer sites, and collaborating with internal engineering teams to deliver high-quality interconnect solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales & Business Development
- Develop and execute a structured territory sales plan.
- Identify, qualify, and secure new business across targeted markets.
- Grow and maintain existing accounts through regular visits and strong technical engagement.
- Technical & Application Support
- Interpret customer requirements and translate them into viable cable assembly solutions.
- Advise on connector selection, harness configurations, shielding, materials, and manufacturing considerations.
- Liaise with in-house engineers on prototypes, design validation, and production readiness.
- Provide troubleshooting and post-sales technical support where needed.
- Market Awareness
- Track industry trends, competitor activity, and new technologies.
- Capture customer feedback and relay insights to support product development.
- Represent the company at trade shows, technical seminars, and industry events.
Skills & Experience
Preferred Background
- 3–7 years’ experience in technical sales within cable assemblies, interconnects, wire harnesses, or related engineered components.
- Experience selling into OEM environments—ideally aerospace, defence, automotive, medical, or telecoms.
- Strong understanding of cable assembly design, connectors, materials, and manufacturing processes.
