This role is responsible for supporting the Group Tax function in maintaining high standards of reporting and compliance for Berkeley Group. As a collaborative partner, you will translate technical tax complexities into pragmatic advice for finance, property, and commercial stakeholders. Serving as the primary point of contact for the department, you’ll stay at the forefront of legislative changes and best practice while actively identifying and driving opportunities for process improvement. To provide support and assurance to the Head of Tax that Berkeley Group is compliant with all relevant UK and overseas tax requirements and to assist with the implementation of the Group Tax Strategy. The role is required to ensure that Berkeley Group’s accounting systems, processes and controls would satisfy any internal or external audit or enquiry.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with finance colleagues, head office and HMRC and act as initial point of contact for the Group Tax function.
- Tax risk and governance
- Assist Head of Tax with risk and control analysis and monitoring for all taxes.
- Ongoing maintenance and review of tax risk register and tax testing.
- Manage Senior Accounting Officer sign-off process to include collation and review of information from divisions.
- Assist Head of Tax with risk assessment and communication of policies and procedures to meet with the requirements of the Failure to Prevent Facilitation of Tax Evasion offence.
- Lead VAT and CIS training on a groupwide basis.
- Prepare and maintain tax calendar with key filing and payment dates and reminders for all taxes.
- Work with Head of Tax to meet the Group transfer pricing obligations.
- Support Head of Tax on tax compliance matters and HMRC enquiries where applicable.
- Maintain Group Tax SharePoint site.
- VAT Compliance
- Support Group Tax function with operational tax queries from the business.
- Support Head of Tax and Group Tax Accountant with monthly VAT return preparation and queries.
- Support Group Tax Accountant with preparation and submission of options to tax and maintain central files.
- Employment taxes and global mobility
- Support business with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) queries.
- Maintain central record of CIS registration status and record of intragroup transactions.
- Assist with raising awareness of employment tax issues across the business.
- Prepare PAYE Settlement Agreement calculation for Berkeley Group and review divisional submissions.
