St Joseph is Berkeley's newest brand, created to bring our passion for quality, place making and building communities to Birmingham and the West Midlands. In this role, you will provide value to the business and insight on sustainability issues for the St Joseph division, with a focus on ensuring the division meets Berkeley Group Sustainability Strategy and Standards.
Key to this role is the ability to liaise with different teams across the business including Construction, Technical and Land and Planning teams. This will include setting out approaches to meet the divisional and group targets; helping to deliver work streams; and monitoring, reporting and communicating local performance. Due to the multi-phase nature of St Joseph divisional projects there will be opportunities to get involved in strategic sustainability initiatives and delivery of sustainability-related targets under Our Vision 2030, as well as overseeing the day to day environmental issues.
We are seeking a Commercial Lead to support two major projects in Birmingham:
- Determination of the Cost Plan for the development in cooperation with peers.
- Preparation of the input to the Purchase Appraisal and coordination and preparation of the phased Commencement appraisal.
- Liaison with architects and consultants to provide continuous value engineering of design concepts and proposals.
- Monitoring changes to continuously identify the status of costs.
- Management of the PQS appointed for the determination of the cost plan and to verify that their costs are consistent with the design and market positioning of the development.
- Establish subcontract sources early in the programme so that they can contribute to the design of the project in terms of value engineering.
- Set up and recruit as necessary to provide surveying support.
- Develop robust and inclusive definitions of the scope of the works.
- Set up and maintain cost reporting systems on site in line with Company procedures.
- Management of the team to meet approved budgets.
Experience required:
- Significant experience within a residential developer or main contractor.
- Relevant degree or MSc in quantity surveying or relevant subject.
- Professional qualification.
- Understands principles of construction from technical, commercial management perspective.
- Understanding of latest building regulations and design efficiencies.
- Experience in brown-field regeneration.
