In this role, you will provide value to the business and insight on sustainability issues for St Joseph division, with a focus on ensuring the division meets Berkeley Group Sustainability Strategy and Standards.

Key to this role is the ability to liaise with different teams across the business including Construction, Technical and Land and Planning teams. This will include setting out approaches to meet the divisional and group targets; helping to deliver work streams; and monitoring, reporting and communicating local performance. Due to the multi-phase nature of St Joseph divisional projects, there will be opportunity to get involved in strategic sustainability initiatives and delivery of sustainability related targets under Our Vision 2030 as well as overseeing the day to day environmental issues.

This role is part of our Hertford Locks development team, based onsite and forming part of a multi-discipline project team, reporting to the Commercial Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Determination of budget for approval in cooperation with peers.
  • Liaison with the technical team and design consultants to ensure design concepts and proposals are developed in line with the approved budgets and procurement tracker.
  • Monitoring changes to continuously identify the status of costs.
  • Establish subcontract sources early in the programme to contribute to the design in terms of value engineering and alternative solutions.
  • Develop robust and inclusive definitions of the scope of the works.
  • Ensure procurement of all subcontract elements of the development are completed in accordance with company requirements and sustainability objectives.
  • Directly manage the surveying function on a number of developments.
  • Prepare scope and works and trade packages.
  • Prepare selected tender list for approval.
  • Subcontract tendering.
  • Recommendation of subcontractors on “Level Playing Field” ensuring complete scope of works is covered and all qualifications addressed.
  • Hold and take minutes of Subcontract Post-Tender and Pre-Order Meetings.
  • Prepare subcontract documentation for signing by both parties in accordance with BH’s Call Off Contract procedure.
  • Raise subcontractor payments.
  • Send agreed number of copies of all Contract Drawings and any revised drawings as issued to subcontractors.
  • Forecast value of design variations.
  • Agree variations with subcontractor.
  • Countersign site instructions.
  • Produce subcontractor instruction/variation reports.
  • Agree final account with subcontractors, no later than one month after practical completion of their works.
  • Fully complete monthly cost reports for approval.
  • Attend Design Team Meetings as required.
  • Attend subcontractor progress meetings as required.
  • Attend miscellaneous meetings at various locations as required to assist with the continual progress of the contract.
  • Write contractual letters when required to subcontractors in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Assist Project Manager with financial implications of site progress decisions.
  • Monitor with Project Manager preliminary expenditure/forecasts on a weekly/monthly basis for the purpose of preparing cost reports.
  • Monitor with Technical Manager Fee expenditure/forecasts on a weekly/monthly basis for the purpose of preparing cost reports.
  • Monitor with the Buying Department material/Purchase Ledger expenditure/forecasts on a weekly/monthly basis for the purpose of preparing cost reports.
  • Prepare and maintain sub contract monitoring spreadsheets such as procurement programmes and appointment records.
  • Provide cost data as required to estimating department to assist in the pricing of future contracts/phases.

Experience required:

  • Experience within a developer or main contractor undertaking residential schemes.
  • Site based experience.
  • Relevant educational background in quantity surveying or relevant subject.
  • Professional qualification.
