Your Opportunity
The OMB Tax Manager will deliver high‑quality compliance and advisory work with an emphasis on Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) matters, acting as a trusted EIS specialist.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance and client delivery:
- Assist with filing submissions to HMRC and provide EIS advice.
- Delegate work to junior staff and review work to a technical standard before Director/Partner sign‑off.
- Respond to client queries on qualifying criteria and identify eligibility issues.
- Spot opportunities to market EIS services to new and existing clients.
- Actively manage WIP and reporting, feeding into senior team.
- Work with trainees and seniors to increase efficiency and oversee their development.
- Coach junior team members on EIS technical knowledge, compliance processes and best practice.
- Share EIS and wider OMB technical knowledge through informal coaching and knowledge sharing.
- Advisory & Project Work:
- Identify tax planning opportunities and deliver written advice or project work.
- Lead scoping of advisory work, prepare fee estimates and monitor delivery and recovery.
- Draft and review advisory reports, clearances and technical memoranda in collaboration with Directors or Partners.
- Support Directors and Partners on advisory projects, providing technical insight and commercial awareness.
- Assist with scoping, fee estimates and delivery of EIS advisory work.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage WIP and reporting, contributing to senior team.
- Increase efficiency on jobs by working closely with trainees and seniors, and taking responsibility for their development.
- Coach junior team members on EIS technical knowledge, compliance processes and best practice.
- Share technical knowledge across the team through informal coaching.
- Support recruitment activities by identifying skill gaps and contributing to interview and selection processes.
- Other attributes:
- Maintain technical knowledge, stay up to date with developments relevant to the department and share learnings with the wider team.
- Managing Risk:
- Apply risk management procedures appropriately and ensure junior team members are aware of these procedures.
- Additional Compliance Work:
- Complete complex returns involving many technical aspects, conclude on technical points and make file notes to support decisions.
- Proactively organise upcoming work: think ahead on a job and prepare for the next step.
- Ensure departmental budgets and new initiatives are followed and adhered to by junior staff.
- Identify wider opportunities for work within the compliance review process – e.g., ERS reporting or BIK issues to review.
- Serve as the first point of contact for clients’ issues and queries on individual jobs, ensuring expectations are fully understood.
Qualifications
- ACA or ATT qualified; CTA completed, or equivalent relevant experience.
Core Experience
- Reviewing tax returns and managing compliance workflows.
- Experience working with owner‑managed businesses.
- Strong hands‑on experience with EIS compliance and advisory work.
- Involvement in EIS advance assurance applications, EIS3s and investor reporting.
- Preparing or reviewing EIS‑related technical analysis.
- Spotting EIS planning opportunities within wider compliance work.
Additional Experience
- Preparing complex tax returns and using the group module.
- Writing sections for reports and clearances.
