For our Global Technology department in London, we are looking to hire a Connectivity and Messaging Engineer. In an era where digitalisation and modern IT infrastructure is revolutionising banking, we are shaping a technology-driven bank in which you as an IT professional will work closely with our business units. Our technology teams offer you an environment that will present you with exciting challenges - be it through the support and further development of legacy systems or the introduction of modern technologies such as AI, machine learning and highly automated trading applications.
Your Role in the team:
We are about to start the next major overhaul of ULTRA, Berenberg’s connectivity and messaging platform. Working on this new version of ULTRA will offer ample opportunity to adopt new concepts, ideas and technologies that will allow ULTRA to stay ahead of future demands. As an engineer in this role, you will be working on our in-house micro-service, fully Kubernetes (K8s) deployed connectivity & messaging platform ULTRA, which enables practically all applications in our IB trading stack to talk to each other in a flexible, reliable and secure manner. ULTRA also provides our FIX based client and exchange connectivity.
What will you do?
- Working on ULTRA puts you right into the middle of IB engineering life as you will be collaborating and interfacing practically with all other IB teams and most other systems.
- You will also be responsible for working on new exchange gateway implementations and their ongoing maintenance as exchanges evolve their gateways.
- Being such a mission-critical system which typically runs 24/7, any new features and changes to ULTRA will have to be fully tested in an automated manner. The role also comes with support responsibilities of varying degrees.
Who are we looking for?
- Deep and solid experience with Java creating scalable, understandable and fully tested code for low-latency, high-throughput applications.
- Profound OOA & OOD skills, deep understanding of multi-threading as well as general concepts of messaging patterns (point-to-point, pub/sub etc, event-driven).
- Experienced with the full development life-cycle: implementation, review, full automated testing, release and familiarity with the processes and tools this typically includes (CI/CD pipelines etc).
- Profound understanding of the FIX protocol and how FIX engines generally work.
- TCP/IP, UDP – good understanding of IP networks, such as routing tables, subnets, BGP.
- Working with containers (aka Docker) and Kubernetes highly advantageous.
- Somebody who naturally and continuously strives to improve a product and its ‘eco-system’ (which includes CI/CD pipelines, automated [performance] testing, [performance] monitoring) and can do so by ‘keeping things simple’.
What we offer you:
- Private pension plan - 10% of base salary contribution by Berenberg.
- Private Health Insurance.
- Enhanced parental leave policies.
- Employee Assistance Programme offering counselling sessions related to mental health, financial wellbeing and other topics.
