We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join the team at Benugo Barbican Centre. The Barbican Kitchen is located within the iconic Barbican Estate in the City of London. Open year-round from 10am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday, it operates as a vibrant Café/Restaurant offering a dynamic and informal dining experience. The venue features a cold deli and seasonal salad counter, a pizza counter serving freshly made pizzas, and a hot food counter offering a rotating selection of seasonal meat, fish, and vegan dishes, accompanied by a variety of vegetable sides. In addition, there is a street food station with an ever-changing menu inspired by global cuisines. Service is assisted at the counters, with no table service provided. As such, there is no tronc system in place.

Shifts: 5 days out of 7, daytime

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

About the Sous Chef role:

  • Reporting directly with the Head Chef and deputising in their absence
  • Working with the Head Chef and Group Executive Chef to develop new menu ideas and ways to improve our offerings
  • Ensuring the food quality is at its highest standard at all times
  • Ensure the performance of the chef team is of the highest standard by motivating and leading by example
  • Overseeing stock levels and making key decisions about stock control in conjunction with the Head Chef
  • Ensure all food safety and health and safety procedures are maintained to the highest standard

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience within high volume kitchens
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
