Purpose of the Role
As an Exterior Lighting Engineer, you will collaborate with the Functional Manager - Lighting to deliver our product ambitions and to shape our Beyond100+ strategy. In this role, you will deliver automotive Lighting Functions and associated Lighting Hardware to meet the requirements of the Project Description Brochure. Reporting into the Functional Manager – Exterior Lighting, your main responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the specification, test, integration and validation to achieve the cost, weight, timing and quality targets for the project
- Achieve engineering signoff for lighting systems & functions within the project timing
- Support and lead Design Development
- Responsible for planning and managing project-related activities throughout a complete project development
- Ability to solve highly complex engineering and design-related problems
- Developing and maintaining specialist knowledge
About the Team
This role is within the Exterior Lighting team, whose goal is to create and develop future world-class lighting systems and products. This agile and forward-thinking team works cross-functionally across the entire business, including Production, Project, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Body & Trim, Electrical Engineering, and Volkswagen Group.
About you – Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be a Lighting Engineer ideally within the automotive industry who has experience of regulations and directives.
- Detailed knowledge of product design using CATIA V5
- Detailed knowledge of independent data interrogation
- Experience and understanding of automotive Lighting Systems
- Understands vehicle electrical architecture, function and integration
- Understanding of complex plastic injection moulding tooling
- Knowledge of FuSi requirements
- Understanding of optical design and the distribution of lighting
- An Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience
