We have been engaged by a leading independent risk management consultancy firm to appoint a Principal Technical Safety Consultant (Safe by Design). Our client provides risk management solutions for developers, owner operators, and technology providers across the energy transition (clean technologies, transmission, decarbonisation). You will join a dynamic team at the forefront of the energy transition and play a crucial role in enabling the safe development, construction, and operation of an array of projects across the UK and internationally. We are open to hearing from ambitious technical or process safety professionals from high hazard sectors, who are keen to be part of the energy transition. Role Lead the provision of technical safety expertise for an array of energy transition technologies, including offshore wind (fixed/ floating), hydrogen, CCUS, and battery storage. Support Principal Designer (PD) role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) on a range of offshore wind projects. Ensure and demonstrate that overall design evolves to eliminate risks where practicable or reduce them ALARP through effective mitigations. Facilitate the understanding of residual risks by Principal Contractors to ensure safe construction practices. Oversee the effective handover into Operations & Maintenance, ensuring residual risks are managed ALARP throughout the project’s operational life. Implement streamlined and efficient processes and systems for effective operation. Maintain strong relationships with clients and manage multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities. Requirements Degree level qualification in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline. Experience of CDM 2015 and the role of Principal Designer is beneficial though not essential. Experience of applying risk management methodologies to energy infrastructure projects is desirable though not essential, including “Safe by Design”, ALARP, and “Hierarchy of Risk Controls”. Experience in implementing Technical Safety/Safety Assurance processes from concept design through to operation to reduce risk ALARP. Experience in leading/facilitating Technical Safety studies and workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP, DRA, e-HAZOP, HIRA, qualitative Risks Registers, Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessment, Safe by Design Decision Making, ALARP Assessments, and HSE/Safety Case Development. Aptitude for leading multi-disciplinary teams and guiding project stakeholders through complex risk management decisions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
