Our client, a well-established accounting practice providing services across bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, and year-end compliance, is seeking an Accounts Assistant to support a growing SME client portfolio. Reporting to the Practice Manager, this role offers hands-on experience across core accounting functions within a collaborative and professional environment.
Job Overview
- Prepare annual accounts to draft level for managerial review
- Complete self-assessment tax returns and assist with corporation tax computations
- Submit VAT returns and support day-to-day bookkeeping across various cloud platforms
- Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients to manage correspondence and resolve queries
- Conduct variance analysis and support management reporting
- Maintain financial records with accuracy and attention to detail
- Schedule client meetings and manage departmental deadlines
- Enter and reconcile financial data using accounting software
- Respond professionally to client queries via phone and email
- Support internal team targets and contribute to shared goals
- Promote the company's values and uphold high standards of conduct and service
- Share knowledge to support junior team members where appropriate
- Actively pursue personal development to enhance technical and professional skills
Job Requirements
- Studying towards AAT, ACA, ACCA or equivalent (AAT qualified/ Part qualified desirable)
- Prior experience in bookkeeping, self-assessment, VAT, and year-end accounting
- Strong communication skills - both written and verbal
- Excellent time management and task prioritisation
- Proficient in Excel and general IT systems
- Motivated, detail-oriented, and client-focused
- Confident working independently and as part of a team
- Experience with cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: £28,000 - £33,000
- Working hours: 8:45-5pm, 37.5 hours a week
- Study Support - Kaplan studying. Trainee contract provided if needed. ACA/ACCA
- 100% office based, hybrid options further down the line for senior roles.
