Location: Nottingham

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Civils Estimator to join their Work Winning Team on a permanent basis. The role will involve preparing accurate and competitive tenders for civil engineering and highways projects. The ideal candidate will have strong site experience, commercial awareness and the ability to price works from first principles while working closely with internal teams, clients and the supply chain. The successful candidate will be responsible for independently preparing accurate and competitive tenders, pricing works from first principles and supporting the business in securing profitable new projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil engineering and highways projects
  • Produce comprehensive take-offs and Bills of Quantities in accordance with recognised methods of measurement
  • Price works from first principles, working closely with operational and commercial teams
  • Review client Bills of Quantities and identify any deficiencies, inconsistencies, or anomalies
  • Review tender documentation and submit clear and professional tender queries where further information is required
  • Identify and assess project risks and opportunities, ensuring these are appropriately incorporated into each estimate
  • Ensure the correct application of the Specification for Highway Works, Sewers for Adoption and other project-specific specifications
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Support the development of a reliable and competitive supply chain
  • Price term contracts and projects delivered under NEC, JCT and other forms of contract

Qualifications

  • Experience estimating civil engineering or highways projects
  • Strong site-based background and commercial awareness
  • Ability to produce cost estimates, take-offs and Bills of Quantities
  • Confident pricing from first principles and identifying tender risks and opportunities
  • Knowledge of SHW, Sewers for Adoption and contracts including NEC and JCT
  • Experience using estimating software, ideally Conquest
  • Proven estimating experience within the civil engineering and/or highways sector
  • Previous practical site experience, gained on highways or similar civil engineering projects
  • Strong working knowledge of the Specification for Highway Works and Sewers for Adoption
  • Experience producing take-offs, Bills of Quantities and first-principles estimates
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tender submissions
  • Experience pricing drainage, earthworks, structures, highways improvements and wider civil engineering works is advantageous
