Product Design Engineer

About the Company – Our client, a leading manufacturer with in-house production facilities, is currently seeking a Product Design Engineer to join their dynamic design and engineering team. This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in designing both standard and custom product variants, as well as contributing to new product development initiatives. This position could suit either a recent graduate engineer looking to start their career or a more experienced engineer seeking a new challenge. Full support and training will be provided where needed.

About the Role – The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, detailed design documentation to support efficient manufacturing operations, while ensuring compliance with relevant luminaire safety standards. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across design, production, and commercial functions.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain precise design data for standard products, custom variants, and new developments.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant safety and design standards, including BS EN 60598-1.
• Work within established product guidelines to maintain consistency.
• Support the maintenance of design data and workflow systems in line with ISO 9001 standards.
• Present design concepts to stakeholders and customers, incorporating feedback as needed.
• Collaborate with commercial teams to develop new product ideas aligned with client specifications.
• Engage with in-house production teams to ensure designs are practical for efficient manufacturing.
• Lead projects when appropriate, ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
• Work with suppliers and procurement to gather accurate costings.
• Provide production support post-launch to resolve any issues.
• Assist in developing promotional materials in collaboration with marketing.

Qualifications – Degree or equivalent qualification in design or engineering.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in 3D modelling software is essential (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
• Experience with sheet metal design is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Vault Professional for document management.
• Confident using MS Excel, Word, and Teams.
• Experience in the lighting industry is advantageous but not required—training provided.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and shopfloor teams.
