Our client, a leading manufacturer with in-house production facilities, is currently seeking a Product Design Engineer to join their dynamic design and engineering team. This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in designing both standard and custom product variants, as well as contributing to new product development initiatives. This position could suit either a recent graduate engineer looking to start their career or a more experienced engineer seeking a new challenge. Full support and training will be provided where needed.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, detailed design documentation to support efficient manufacturing operations, while ensuring compliance with relevant luminaire safety standards. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across design, production, and commercial functions.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain precise design data for standard products, custom variants, and new developments.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant safety and design standards, including BS EN 60598-1.
- Work within established product guidelines to maintain consistency.
- Support the maintenance of design data and workflow systems in line with ISO 9001 standards.
- Present design concepts to stakeholders and customers, incorporating feedback as needed.
- Collaborate with commercial teams to develop new product ideas aligned with client specifications.
- Engage with in-house production teams to ensure designs are practical for efficient manufacturing.
- Lead projects when appropriate, ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
- Work with suppliers and procurement to gather accurate costings.
- Provide production support post-launch to resolve any issues.
- Assist in developing promotional materials in collaboration with marketing.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in design or engineering.
- Proficiency in 3D modelling software is essential (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
- Experience with sheet metal design is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Vault Professional for document management.
- Confident using MS Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Experience in the lighting industry is advantageous but not required—training provided.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and shopfloor teams.
Pay range and compensation package
- £26,000- £40,000
- 37.5-hour workweek (days only)
- 25 days annual leave + statutory bank holidays
- Performance bonus after a qualifying period
