A well-established civil engineering and construction contractor is seeking a Buyer to join its procurement team based in Henfield, West Sussex. This role is ideal for a Buyer with experience in construction or engineering procurement who enjoys a fast-paced environment, working closely with Estimating, Commercial, and Site Teams.
The Buyer will be responsible for obtaining competitive quotations, placing orders, managing supplier performance, and supporting the wider procurement function to deliver best value across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Obtain competitive quotations for materials, plant, and services
- Raise purchase orders and expedite deliveries to meet programme requirements
- Maintain supplier performance records and the approved supplier list
- Support QHSE with supplier audits and compliance checks
- Liaise closely with Contracts, Estimating, and Project Teams
- Issue material enquiries in line with project plans, specifications, and drawings
- Collate, analyse, and compare quotations for tenders and live contracts
- Provide cost advice and support to Estimators during tender stages
- Extract material requirements from tender and procurement information
- Assist the Senior Buyer with cost analysis, reporting, and scheduling
- Arrange transfer of materials and plant between sites and head office as required
- Identify efficiencies, consolidate purchases, and drive cost savings
- Provide cover for the Senior Buyer during periods of absence
- Distribute purchase orders and procurement information to sites and stakeholders
- Support the training and development of team members, including apprentices
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Purchasing or Buying role, ideally within construction or civil engineering
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Ability to analyse data and produce clear cost and procurement reports
- Good understanding of material specifications and procurement processes
- Working knowledge of QHSE legislation and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems
- Understanding of FSC and PEFC chain of custody management systems
- Experience using EVision and Procore (or similar procurement / project systems)
- Purchasing qualification (desirable)
- Full UK driving licence or suitable travel arrangements
- Sustainability awareness (desirable)
