Job Description

Position: Freight Compliance Officer
Location: Gravesham, Kent
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 DOE

Our client is seeking an experienced Freight Forwarding Compliance Officer to ensure the business continues to fully adhere to all relevant UK, European, and international laws and regulations.

The successful candidate will take a proactive approach in monitoring, interpreting, and implementing compliance requirements within a constantly evolving global regulatory landscape.


Freight Compliance Officer Job Overview
  • Ensure the company remains fully compliant with UK, EU, and international trade, customs, and sanctions regulations.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments affecting freight forwarding and logistics operations, advising management on required actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve internal compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead and document internal audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Manage readiness for HMRC AEO revalidation and ISO certification audits.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and external auditors.
  • Oversee supplier compliance, ethical sourcing, and procurement documentation.
  • Deliver staff training on compliance awareness, data protection, and health & safety.
  • Prepare compliance and audit reports for senior management.
  • Provide operational support with import/export documentation and sales coordination when required.

Freight Compliance Officer Job Requirements
  • Proven background in compliance, risk management, or legal roles within freight forwarding, logistics, or international trade.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK, EU, and international trade and customs legislation.
  • Familiarity with HMRC AEO requirements and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Experience with internal/external audits, policy management, and regulatory reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with all levels of the business and external regulators.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and compliance or regulatory platforms.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree in Law, Business Administration, International Trade, or Risk Management (or equivalent).
  • Recognised compliance or risk certification (ICA, IRM, or IOE&IT).
  • Knowledge of AEO standards, ISO management systems, H&S legislation, and GDPR.

Freight Compliance Officer Salary & Benefits
  • Office Based Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:30
  • £30,000 - £35,000, depending on experience.
  • 20 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), increasing to 25 days (plus Bank Holidays)
