Location: Wandsworth, LondonSalary: Β£55,000 + Bonus + BenefitsOur client is a leading waste management and recycling business, looking for an experienced Waste Operations Manager to take overall responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of a major London site.This is a hands-on management role requiring strong leadership, operational and health & safety experience, with responsibility for people, plant, environmental compliance, site performance and continuous improvement.
Overview
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the transfer station.
- Lead, motivate and develop supervisors, operators and support staff.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, waste legislation and Health & Safety requirements.
- Manage site throughput, operational performance and KPIs.
- Oversee traffic movements, vehicle flows, tipping operations and site safety.
- Manage recruitment, training, workforce planning and employee performance.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee plant, equipment, maintenance and contractor management.
- Support budget control, cost reduction and operational improvement initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, local authorities and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
- Previous management experience within waste management, recycling, transfer stations, logistics or a similar operational environment.
- Strong people leadership and team management experience.
- Experience managing teams within a safety-critical environment.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental compliance.
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing contractors and operational performance.
- Knowledge of waste legislation and environmental permits.
- Operational knowledge of vehicles, plant and equipment.
Desirable: WAMITAB Level 4, IOSH/NEBOSH, Environmental Permit experience and experience managing large-scale waste or recycling operations.
