Our client, a leading groundworks and civil engineering contractor with over 25 years of experience, is seeking a Site Engineer to join their team covering sites across North Cambridge: Wisbech, Corby, Downham Market, Peterborough. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business that combines scale and structure with a supportive, family-led culture. With a turnover exceeding £250 million and over 1,500 employees, they operate nationally, delivering high-volume residential groundwork packages for some of the country\’s most respected housebuilders.

We\’re seeking an experienced Site Engineer or Senior Engineer with a strong background in residential groundworks, specifically setting out for housing developments. This is a key technical role, responsible for supporting the successful delivery of groundworks projects across our South Midlands sites.

Site Engineer Salary & Benefits

  • Salary up to £75,000 DOE

Responsibilities include:

  • Set out works accurately for roads, sewers, and housing plots using provided coordinates and drawings.
  • Check and verify all design information, resolving discrepancies with the Technical Team.
  • Maintain survey equipment, complete quality checks, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Allocate resources across multiple sites, support planning, and liaise with site and client teams.
  • Provide clear engineering guidance to site operatives and support trainee development where required.
  • Report any cost impacts or rework due to incorrect information or setting out errors.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety procedures and site-specific protocols.
  • Represent the company professionally on-site and maintain high standards of conduct and equipment care.

Candidate requirements:

  • Engineering experience in housing and infrastructure, particularly groundworks.
  • Ability to manage multiple active sites.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills and understanding of digital setting out techniques.
  • Excellent numerical and spatial awareness.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and proactive.
