The company is a CIOB Chartered construction firm with a strong local reputation across Hampshire and Dorset. They specialise in bespoke high-end residential new builds, heritage refurbishments, Passivhaus projects and commercial developments, with a strong focus on quality, integrity and professional project delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial career within a small, collaborative team. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced Quantity Surveyor, gaining hands‑on exposure across live projects with a clear progression route towards Quantity Surveyor.

Position Overview

  • Assist with measuring and pricing works from drawings and specifications
  • Prepare cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and interim valuations
  • Obtain subcontractor and supplier quotations and assist with tender comparisons
  • Monitor project costs against budgets and identify cost variances
  • Assist with subcontractor accounts, final accounts and applications for payment
  • Maintain accurate cost records and commercial documentation
  • Liaise with site teams, subcontractors and suppliers on commercial matters
  • Support the commercial team throughout the pre‑construction and construction phases

Position Requirements

  • Some experience within a Quantity Surveying, commercial or construction environment, or a relevant qualification or placement
  • HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline is advantageous
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Good understanding of construction processes, cost control and commercial practices
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop within a commercial role
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle due to regular travel between the office and project sites
