Our client is a well-established building services consultancy based in London, known for delivering varied and interesting projects across the built environment. They are now looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join their design team in London. This is a great opportunity for someone with at least two years' experience in building services to take on more responsibility, lead the electrical design on smaller projects under supervision, and continue developing towards chartered status.

Job Overview:

The successful candidate will work on the production of building services design information including sketches, drawings, calculations, and technical schedules. They will be competent in 2D AutoCAD and have experience of 3D modelling using REVIT, and will be capable of carrying out technical electrical calculations, analysing energy profiles, and taking responsibility for detailed design such as system schematics and equipment sizing.

The role will include:

  • Carrying out electrical load calculations, containment sizing, equipment sizing, circuit protection analysis and energy profiles with minimal supervision
  • Fire alarm design, IT structured cabling design, lighting control strategies and security systems concept strategies
  • Low carbon technologies design and sizing, and energy generation/consumption analysis
  • Producing design information such as sketches, drawings and technical schedules
  • Liaising with equipment manufacturers and utility suppliers on technical equipment selections and utility applications
  • Coordinating the design with the external design team
  • Attending site visits and liaising with contractors to ensure design intent is followed, completing site inspection reports
  • Sharing knowledge with more junior team members and offering guidance
  • Working towards chartership with CIBSE or IET and recording CPD in line with their guidelines

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years' employment as an electrical engineer in building services
  • Good degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience and awareness of life safety and critical power infrastructure design
  • Awareness of low carbon technologies and electric vehicle charging design
  • Awareness of environmental design and sustainability issues in construction
  • Understanding of mechanical and plumbing health services
  • Understanding of relevant building regulations, planning policy, British Standards and CIBSE guidelines
  • Competent using technical software such as Amtech, Dialux, PV-GIS and IES
  • Competent in 2D AutoCAD, with experience of 3D modelling/BIM software such as REVIT
  • Solid understanding of electrical circuits
  • Confident using Microsoft Office software for reports, specifications and calculations
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, with strong attention to detail
