Pipefitter / Welder required for a process engineering company and manufacturer of a wide range of products including heat exchangers, hygienic pipework systems and process equipment supplied predominantly into the food engineering industry, based in the Elland area.
This position is responsible for the manufacture, assembly, welding and installation of process pipework systems used in the handling and conveying of food products, powders, liquids, steam and associated process media. The role will involve working both within the workshop and on customer sites throughout the UK, supporting the successful delivery of bespoke engineering projects.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Manufacturing, assembling, welding and installing hygienic stainless-steel pipework systems.
- Interpreting engineering drawings.
- Supporting installation activities and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
- Working closely with Project Engineers, Contracts Engineers and Workshop Management.
- Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project schedules and customer requirements.
- Carrying out hygienic stainless-steel purge TIG welding on dairy tube, schedule tube and associated pipework components.
- Assisting with technically challenging projects within food manufacturing and process engineering environments.
- Reporting material shortages, design issues and installation challenges to the Project Engineering team in a timely manner.
- Working in accordance with risk assessments, method statements and company health & safety procedures.
- Adhering to customer engineering standards, hygiene requirements and site-specific regulations.
- Identifying and communicating any project changes or technical issues encountered during manufacture or installation activities.
- Providing professional and courteous interaction with customers during site visits and installations.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining high standards of workmanship and quality throughout all project stages.
- Assisting with the mentoring and development of less experienced team members where required.
- Complying with all Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Management System requirements.
Job Requirements:
- Strong background in process pipework manufacture, assembly and installation.
- Experience of hygienic stainless-steel purge TIG welding.
- Ability to weld dairy tube, schedule tube, brackets, supports and associated process pipework components.
- Good understanding of temperature-controlled process pipework systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs, layout drawings, spool drawings and general fabrication drawings.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and hygienic manufacturing practices.
- Experience working within food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, process engineering or similar regulated industries.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues during manufacture and installation activities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
- Experience working to project deadlines and achieving key project milestones.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently whilst contributing effectively as part of a wider project team.
- Customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Flexible approach to working hours and travel requirements.
- Willingness to work both within the workshop and on customer sites across the UK, including overnight stays and working away where required.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- Experience within hygienic food process engineering environments.
- Experience working with special purpose machinery and process equipment.
- Previous site installation experience.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members.
Qualifications:
- Apprentice trained in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within pipefitting, welding, fabrication or process engineering environments.
- Relevant welding qualifications advantageous but not essential.
- Full and current UK Driving Licence.
