Bennett & Game are currently representing a specialist Main Contractor based near Chichester who are seeking either a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team. This is an exclusive opportunity working with a contractor that delivers technically complex construction projects across the UK and internationally within secure and defence-related sectors. The business specialises in delivering high-security environments for government, defence and critical infrastructure clients, with projects typically ranging from £250k to £8m.

Whether joining at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level, you will take ownership of commercially managing projects from pre-contract through to final account. Senior Quantity Surveyors will also provide commercial leadership, mentor junior team members and lead negotiations with clients and subcontractors on strategically important projects.

Applications are welcomed from both Main Contractors and Quantity Surveying Consultancies, provided candidates have strong commercial fundamentals and experience administering NEC contracts. The position offers a hybrid working structure with typically 2-3 days per week based in the Chichester office, making the role suitable for candidates located across Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Guildford, Brighton, Crawley, Basingstoke and surrounding areas. Due to the nature of the projects, applicants should ideally live within approximately one hour of Chichester and also be able to travel into London when required.

While the role is primarily UK-based, the business also delivers projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. The successful candidate will have the option to spend approximately 2-4 weeks per year supporting international projects, although the role can remain entirely UK-based if preferred.

Job Overview

  • Manage the full commercial lifecycle from tender stage through to final account
  • Take commercial responsibility for multiple construction projects across the UK, with optional international project involvement
  • Deliver technically complex defence and secure infrastructure projects valued between £250k and £8m
  • Administer NEC contracts, including Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events, valuations and change management
  • Prepare Applications for Payment, CVRs, forecasts, cost reports and final accounts
  • Procure and commercially manage subcontractor and supplier packages
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout project delivery
  • Senior Quantity Surveyors will lead commercial strategy, mentor junior team members and manage key client relationships
  • Work closely with the Commercial Manager, Project Managers and wider delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle

Job Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Experience within a Quantity Surveying or Senior Quantity Surveying role in construction
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (JCT knowledge also beneficial)
  • Background within either a Main Contractor or Quantity Surveying Consultancy
  • Experience managing cost reporting, valuations, variations, CVRs and final accounts
  • Senior applicants should have experience leading commercial delivery and mentoring junior staff
  • Eligible for and willing to undergo DV Security Clearance due to the nature of the projects
  • Ideally located within approximately one hour of Chichester and within reasonable travelling distance of London
  • Experience within defence, infrastructure, government or other complex construction sectors would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Professional, organised and commercially astute with excellent communication skills
