The Opportunity: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Engineer to join a well-established, family-owned manufacturing business specialising in high-quality brass and aluminium castings. Operating across four specialist divisions, the company provides a complete manufacturing solution, including brass foundry operations, CNC machining, laser cutting, polishing and plating. They also have an innovative approach to manufacturing, with ongoing investment in new technologies, including the development of their own in-house 3D printing capabilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer with proven casting industry experience to play a key role in the design and development of tooling and components for a wide range of engineered products. The successful candidate will work closely with production and manufacturing teams to develop practical, cost-effective designs that support efficient manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design cast components, tooling and manufacturing solutions using SolidWorks.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Design dies, core boxes, moulding tools and associated tooling for casting processes.
  • Work closely with production, foundry and machining departments to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture.
  • Modify and improve existing designs to enhance quality, manufacturability and efficiency.
  • Support new product development from concept through to production.
  • Liaise with internal departments to resolve design and manufacturing challenges.
  • Ensure designs comply with customer specifications, quality standards and manufacturing requirements.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across design and manufacturing processes.

What We Need From You:

Essential:

  • Previous experience as a Design Engineer within a casting, foundry or tooling environment.
  • Strong SolidWorks experience.
  • Proven experience designing dies, core boxes and moulding tools.
  • Understanding of brass and/or aluminium casting processes.
  • Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a manufacturing environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a foundry or precision engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting new product development.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing or additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent).
