A well-established architectural practice with an in-house structural engineering team is looking to appoint a Structural Engineer to join its Sheffield-based office. The consultancy employs around 100 professional staff, with a close-knit engineering team of 13, and delivers innovative, technically robust projects across the UK. This is a full-time, predominantly office-based role offering the opportunity to work closely alongside architects and other built-environment professionals in a collaborative, design-led environment.
Responsibilities
- Involvement in the structural analysis and design of buildings from concept through to construction across a wide range of sectors.
- Day-to-day responsibilities include structural analysis and design in steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
- Preparation of structural calculations, specifications and technical reports.
- Site inspections and structural appraisals.
- Working collaboratively with architects, engineers and external consultants.
- Supporting projects from early design stages through to delivery.
Project Exposure
You will gain hands-on experience across a diverse portfolio of technically engaging schemes, including:
- Multi-million-pound precast concrete university buildings
- High-rise student accommodation refurbishments and extensions
- New build retail developments for national retailers
- Large steel-framed industrial and warehouse schemes
- Multi-storey care homes in load-bearing masonry
Projects are delivered nationwide across Residential, Commercial, Retail, Healthcare, Leisure and Student Accommodation sectors.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Typically 2+ years' experience in consulting engineering, although candidates outside this range will be considered
- Strong understanding of building structures and core structural engineering principles
- Experience using hand calculations, spreadsheets and structural design software
- Experience with finite element analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: £30,000 - £40,000, dependent on experience
- Full-time office-based role with flexibility for ad hoc home working where required
- 7.5-hour working day between 8:30am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday
- 25 days annual leave plus Christmas closure and up to 2 additional concessionary days
