Senior Planner - Structural Steel

Senior Planner Position: Senior Planner Location: Wombwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire Salary: £40,000-£60,000 (dependent on experience) Working Arrangement: Site based / office-based Employment Type: Permanent Senior Planner required in Wombwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, for our client. Our client is one of the UK's leading structural steelwork specialists, designing, manufacturing and constructing a wide portfolio of projects across the UK and Europe. Established for over 75 years, the business has extensive experience delivering projects ranging from straightforward building frames to complex structural steelwork. The company is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Planner to strengthen its planning capability. This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with Estimating, Commercial, Production and Construction teams to develop, maintain and communicate detailed project programmes using Asta Powerproject and Primavera P6. The successful candidate will be responsible for bringing together information from across the business to produce robust, accurate and practical programmes, with a strong understanding of project requirements, sequencing, resource constraints and delivery methodology. Senior Planner Job Overview Develop detailed tender, pre-construction and live project programmes using Asta Powerproject and Primavera P6 Work closely with Estimating teams to understand project scope, methodology, key dates, constraints and programme requirements Produce high-quality tender programmes within required commercial timescales Coordinate with Production teams to incorporate fabrication requirements, sequencing, capacity, lead times and dependencies Work with Construction teams to incorporate site methodology, erection sequencing, access, resource requirements and key interfaces Develop and maintain programme logic, critical paths, milestones, dependencies and key interfaces Review client and main contractor programmes and identify implications for the scope of works Identify programme risks, constraints, opportunities and potential conflicts at an early stage Challenge programme assumptions and work with operational teams to identify practical solutions Update programmes throughout the project lifecycle to reflect progress and changing requirements Produce programme reports communicating progress, key dates, risks and priorities Support project teams in understanding programme requirements and the impact of delays or changes Assist with scenario planning and programme optimisation Develop consistent planning standards, templates and best practice across the business Build knowledge of fabrication and construction processes to continually improve programme accuracy Senior Planner Job Requirements Significant experience in a project planning or programming role within construction, structural steelwork, engineering or a similar project-led environment Strong working knowledge and practical experience of Asta Powerproject and/or Primavera P6 Demonstrable experience developing detailed project programmes using information from multiple disciplines Strong understanding of programme logic, dependencies, critical path analysis, sequencing and resource considerations Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, tender information and project documentation Experience producing programmes within demanding tender and project timescales Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to coordinate and challenge information across different departments Ability to work at pace and manage multiple programmes and competing priorities Strong attention to detail alongside an understanding of overall project delivery strategy Desirable: Previous experience within structural steelwork, fabrication or a related engineering environment Understanding of design, procurement, fabrication, logistics and site erection processes Experience in both tender/pre-construction and live project planning Experience working directly with Estimating, Commercial, Production and Construction teams Knowledge of contractual programme requirements and programme reporting Senior Planner Salary & Benefits Salary: £40,000-£60,000, dependent on experience Working hours: 37.5 hours per week Company pension Sick pay scheme Health plan Cycle to work scheme Share save scheme Option to purchase additional holidays Full-time, office-based position in Wombwell, Barnsley Bennett and Game Recruitment are a multi-disciplined technical recruitment agency based in Chichester, West Sussex operating across the UK with specialist teams covering a range of industries.
