We are supporting a fast-growing, client-focused accountancy practice with the recruitment of a Senior Accountant. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role for a proactive, capable individual who thrives in a dynamic environment. The firm values attitude, energy, curiosity, and strong practical accounting skills over formal qualifications. This role is ideal for someone who wants to work closely with clients, advise on business performance, and contribute to a high-performing, collaborative team. The client works with SMEs, typically below 1m turnover, and takes a commercially minded, advisory-led approach rather than a traditional compliance-only focus.
Role Overview
- Prepare and review statutory accounts for a range of businesses, including limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
- Produce and interpret management accounts, financial reports, and bespoke reporting packs.
- Advise clients on business growth, cashflow, profitability, pricing, and operational improvements.
- Prepare annual financial plans and forecasts, including P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, and scenario analysis.
- Hold client meetings and present clear, actionable advice.
- Lead or support team members on accounts preparation, client queries, and other ad-hoc projects.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy and professionalism in all work.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and client outcomes.
Role Requirements
- Strong foundational accounting knowledge, including double-entry bookkeeping and reconciliations.
- Experienced in preparing statutory accounts, management accounts, and corporate/personal tax returns (tax experience desirable but not essential).
- Commercially minded with the ability to provide advisory support to clients.
- Confident, personable, and capable of leading client meetings.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Positive, proactive, and solutions-focused, with a high level of energy and curiosity.
- Can manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Qualification by experience accepted β formal ACA/ACCA is desirable but not essential; practical capability, attitude, and results are the priority.
- Strong IT skills, including accounting software (experience with Xero, Sage, or CCH advantageous) and Microsoft Excel/Word.
