We are recruiting for a Projects Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke mechanical process systems for a wide range of industrial sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to develop their project engineering responsibilities, or an established Projects Engineer who still enjoys hands-on design work. The role offers involvement throughout the full project lifecycle, from sales handover and design through to installation and commissioning.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, particularly fabrication, structural steelwork, sheet metal, pipework or heavy engineering, and be confident liaising with customers, suppliers and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing engineering projects from sales handover through to final delivery and installation.
  • Producing plant layouts, general arrangement drawings and detailed fabrication drawings using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D.
  • Designing fabricated components including structural steelwork, sheet metal, pipework and heavy fabricated assemblies.
  • Carrying out site surveys and taking measurements for new and existing installations.
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers and subcontractors throughout project delivery.
  • Procuring equipment and negotiating with approved suppliers.
  • Monitoring project progress, costs and maintaining project documentation.
  • Producing O&M manuals, technical documentation and project data packs.
  • Carrying out supplier inspections and quality checks on manufactured equipment.
  • Supporting installation and commissioning activities, including occasional UK travel and overnight stays.
  • Working within an ISO9001 Quality Management System.
Essential Requirements
  • HND (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D.
  • Strong experience producing fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience designing fabricated equipment including structural steelwork, sheet metal, pipework or heavy fabricated assemblies.
  • Ability to interpret and produce plant layout drawings and general arrangements.
  • Good understanding of mechanical manufacturing and fabrication processes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with customers and suppliers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Previous Project Engineering or Project Management experience.
  • Experience within process engineering, materials handling, dust extraction, filtration, air movement or similar industrial sectors.
  • Experience carrying out site surveys and installation support.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 quality systems.

This role is based in Ellesmere Port and will involve occasional travel throughout the UK. From time to time, you will be required to carry out site surveys, oversee installations and support commissioning activities, which may involve overnight stays.
