Our client is a well-established and growing accountancy practice based in the Preston area, providing accountancy, taxation, payroll and business advisory services to a varied client base. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Payroll Assistant to join their existing team. This is initially a part-time role working three days per week, with the potential to increase to five days for candidates who can also assist with accounts preparation and VAT returns.

Role Overview - Payroll Assistant

  • Assist with weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
  • Accurately process payroll data including hours, salary changes, overtime, bonuses, deductions, starters and leavers.
  • Support RTI submissions, pension administration and other payroll-related filings.
  • Prepare draft payslips, reports and payroll summaries for review.
  • Respond to client and employee payroll queries professionally and promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
  • Assist with year-end processes, including P60s.
  • Liaise with HMRC, pension providers and clients where required.
  • Provide general administrative support to the payroll team.
  • Where experience allows, assist with accounts preparation and VAT returns, with the potential to increase working days to five per week.

Role Requirements - Skills & Experience

  • Previous payroll, payroll bureau, bookkeeping, accounts or relevant administrative experience.
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple clients is advantageous.
  • Accounts preparation and VAT experience is desirable due to the potential for additional working days.
  • PayCircle or similar payroll software experience would be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of confidentiality and data protection.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Β£28,000 - Β£32,000 pro rata, depending on experience.
  • Hours: Three days per week initially, with potential for five days.
  • Holiday: 20 days pro rata.
  • Training: Support available for further relevant training and development.
  • Opportunity to develop within a growing accountancy practice with exposure to both payroll and wider accounts work.
