Due to continued organic growth and the decision to expand its in-house Building Services capability, our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing Manchester team. This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineer looking for greater project ownership than a traditional design-only consultancy position. The successful candidate will combine Mechanical Building Services design with client interaction, surveys, site involvement and project management, taking projects from initial design through to successful delivery. The role would particularly suit a high-level Intermediate or Senior Engineer who enjoys seeing how their designs are implemented in practice and wants the opportunity to manage their own projects. Design and specify mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water and associated building services. Produce calculations, specifications, reports and technical design information. Work predominantly using AutoCAD and Revit, alongside appropriate Mechanical design and calculation software. Undertake surveys and assessments of existing buildings and services. Take projects from initial brief and design through to construction and completion. Attend client meetings and provide technical advice throughout project delivery. Liaise and coordinate with Architects, Engineers, contractors and other project stakeholders. Attend site meetings, undertake inspections and resolve technical issues during construction. Manage elements of programme, coordination and project delivery. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients. Work across projects within Education, Healthcare, Local Authority, Social Housing and other sectors. Support the continued development of the consultancy's in-house Mechanical Engineering capability. Have the opportunity to recommend and implement improvements to Mechanical design software and processes. Mechanical Design Engineer Job Requirements Approximately 5+ years' experience within Mechanical Building Services Engineering preferred, although candidates at different levels may be considered. Strong Mechanical Building Services design experience. Experience taking projects beyond design and remaining involved throughout construction and delivery. Comfortable undertaking surveys, attending site and dealing directly with contractors. Strong client-facing and communication skills. Ability to take responsibility for projects rather than operating solely as part of a design production team. AutoCAD experience required, with Revit experience highly advantageous. Experience with Mechanical calculation/design software; the business is flexible regarding specific packages. Strong understanding of how Mechanical designs are practically coordinated and delivered on site. Chartered, nearly Chartered or working towards professional accreditation would be advantageous but is not essential. Previous contractor-side or design-and-build experience would be particularly advantageous.
