A well-established civil engineering and construction contractor is seeking a Buyer to join its procurement team based in Henfield, West Sussex. This role is ideal for a Buyer with experience in construction or engineering procurement who enjoys a fast-paced environment, working closely with Estimating, Commercial, and Site Teams.

The Buyer will be responsible for:

  • Obtaining competitive quotations for materials, plant, and services
  • Placing orders and expediting deliveries to meet programme requirements
  • Maintaining supplier performance records and the approved supplier list
  • Supporting QHSE with supplier audits and compliance checks
  • Liaising closely with Contracts, Estimating, and Project Teams
  • Issuing material enquiries in line with project plans, specifications, and drawings
  • Collating, analysing, and comparing quotations for tenders and live contracts
  • Providing cost advice and support to Estimators during tender stages
  • Extracting material requirements from tender and procurement information
  • Assisting the Senior Buyer with cost analysis, reporting, and scheduling
  • Arranging transfer of materials and plant between sites and head office as required
  • Identifying efficiencies, consolidating purchases, and driving cost savings
  • Providing cover for the Senior Buyer during periods of absence
  • Distributing purchase orders and procurement information to sites and stakeholders
  • Supporting the training and development of team members, including apprentices

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a Purchasing or Buying role, ideally within construction or civil engineering
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to analyse data and produce clear cost and procurement reports
  • Good understanding of material specifications and procurement processes
  • Working knowledge of QHSE legislation and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems
  • Understanding of FSC and PEFC chain of custody management systems
  • Experience using EVision and Procore (or similar procurement / project systems)
  • Purchasing qualification (desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence or suitable travel arrangements
  • Sustainability awareness (desirable)

Salary: up to £30,000
