A great opportunity for an engineer to join a leading rail plant team. Initially based at the Lockerbie depot for full training, you will then move into a mobile engineering role supporting rail infrastructure projects. Ideal for those with RRV experience or heavy plant engineers with strong mechanical and hydraulic skills looking to progress into the rail sector.
Role Overview
- Depot-based initially, progressing to mobile rail work after training
- Maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of rail plant and on-track machinery
- Work on Rail-Road Vehicles (RRVs) and associated hydraulic/mechanical systems
- Ensure all equipment meets safety, compliance, and operational standards
- Exposure to varied and specialist machinery used on major rail projects
- Ongoing training with a clear development pathway into rail-specific work
- Supportive and experienced engineering team
Requirements
- Experience as a Plant Engineer, Rail Plant Engineer, or Heavy Plant Fitter
- RRV experience preferred but not essential
- Strong mechanical and hydraulic knowledge
- Knowledge of LOLER/PUWER advantageous
- Strong fault-finding and repair ability
- Health & Safety-focused with high work standards
- Full UK driving licence required
- Willingness to learn and undertake further rail training
Salary & Benefits
- Starting rate: £18.50 per hour (days)
- Starting rate: £23.00 per hour (nights/weekends)
- Clear progression path with pay increases as skills, competencies, and rail certifications are achieved
- 40-hour week (07:30-16:30, 1-hour unpaid lunch)
- Regular overtime available
- 28 days holiday (incl. bank holidays)
