Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 DOE

Bennett & Game are representing an established construction contractor who are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team. The company operates across general construction, refurbishment, restoration, repair and maintenance, delivering a varied portfolio of projects across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and the wider Eastern region. Current work ranges from public-sector refurbishment and housing maintenance programmes through to commercial fit-outs and larger construction projects, with project values typically ranging from around £1m to £2m.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys being hands-on and wants genuine responsibility across both commercial and operational aspects of projects. The successful candidate will work closely with site teams, clients, subcontractors and the wider office, with the role offering a good degree of autonomy within a busy and established contracting business. There is also scope for the successful candidate to take on elements of project management, making this particularly well suited to someone who enjoys being involved beyond the traditional QS function.

Position Overview

  • Managing the commercial aspects of multiple construction, refurbishment and fit-out projects
  • Preparing, reviewing and managing project budgets, costs and valuations
  • Monitoring project performance, variations, subcontractor accounts and final accounts
  • Working closely with site teams to manage labour, resources, costs and programme requirements
  • Liaising directly with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to maintain strong commercial relationships
  • Supporting the delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion
  • Taking a hands-on approach to project management where required, including coordinating resources and helping to keep projects on programme
  • Ensuring projects are delivered commercially and operationally to a high standard

Position Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a construction or contracting environment
  • Strong commercial awareness with a good understanding of construction costs, variations, valuations and final accounts
  • Experience across general construction, refurbishment, fit-out, maintenance or similar projects
  • Ideally comfortable working on projects ranging from approximately £1m to £2m in value
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to deal directly with clients, subcontractors and site teams
  • A hands-on and proactive approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a busy contracting environment
  • Candidates with some Project Management experience or an interest in taking on wider project responsibilities are particularly encouraged to apply
  • Full UK driving licence due to the regional nature of the projects
