Bennett & Game are pleased to be representing a growing civil engineering and water infrastructure contractor based in Somerton, Somerset, who are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their expanding commercial team. The company specialises in water and wastewater infrastructure, delivering projects including pipelines, drainage systems, water treatment works and associated concrete structures. Typical project values range from £2 million to £10 million, with work taking place across the South West and Hampshire.
The successful candidate will have previous commercial experience within the water, utilities or civil engineering sectors and will be comfortable managing projects independently. Strong knowledge of NEC contracts is essential, alongside experience managing applications for payment, variations, compensation events, cost forecasting and final accounts.
This position would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor, Project Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or QS / Estimator looking to join a growing specialist contractor with a strong pipeline of work.
- Provide commercial management across water and civil engineering projects.
- Prepare estimates, tenders, quotations and cost plans.
- Review drawings, specifications and project documentation.
- Manage applications for payment, valuations and variations.
- Prepare and manage NEC early warnings and compensation events.
- Produce cost reports, forecasts and CVRs.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, payments and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs, budgets and commercial performance.
- Work closely with site teams, project managers and the Commercial Manager.
- Attend sites across the South West and Hampshire approximately two to three days per week.
- Support projects from tender stage through to completion.
- Ensure contractual and commercial risks are identified and managed.
Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or QS / Estimator.
Strong background within water, wastewater, drainage, pipelines or utilities.
Good knowledge of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
Experience managing live civil engineering projects.
Experience with applications for payment, valuations, variations and final accounts.
Strong commercial awareness and cost-management ability.
Able to work independently without requiring close supervision.
Comfortable travelling to sites across Somerset, Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and Hampshire.
Based within a commutable distance of Somerton.
Full UK driving licence.
Salary of £50,000-£70,000, depending on experience.
