Hardware Test Engineer required for our client based in Stevenage, they are a rapidly growing UK-based health tech start-up that is building wearable technology with the power to support people living with neurological conditions. They are looking for a Hardware Test Engineer to own the day-to-day quality checks, test processes, and failure reduction work for their devices. You'll help ensure every device leaving our facility meets defined standards, and you'll drive continuous improvement by diagnosing failures, feeding insights back into engineering/manufacturing, and tightening our QA controls. This is a hands-on role that suits someone who likes practical electronics, structured testing, and improving processes through data.

Hardware Test Engineer Overview

  • Perform incoming inspection (IQC) for delivered components and assemblies (spot checks, sampling, visual inspection, basic electrical checks).
  • Run end-of-line (EOL) functional tests on finished devices (haptics, charging, battery, buttons/sensors if present, firmware/app pairing where applicable).
  • Maintain pass/fail criteria and ensure consistent test execution across batches.
  • Record results accurately and flag non-conformances immediately.
  • Create, improve, and maintain test SOPs, checklists, and work instructions (clear, repeatable, version-controlled).
  • Triage returns: reproduce faults, isolate root causes, and classify failures (e.g., battery, charging, haptic motor, PCB fault, enclosure/strap, firmware).
  • Produce concise failure analysis reports with photos, measurements, and recommended corrective actions.

Hardware Test Engineer Requirements

  • Experience in hardware testing, electronics technician work, QA, or production test (consumer electronics/wearables a plus).
  • Comfortable using tools such as: multimeter, power supply, basic measurement instruments; confidence with connectors, batteries, enclosures.
  • Ability to follow and improve structured test procedures and documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail; calm, methodical troubleshooting.
  • Basic data handling: Excel/Google Sheets; ability to spot trends and keep clean logs.
