Bennett & Game are currently working with a well-established civil engineering contractor who are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join their Highways Division. The successful candidate will be working on a range of highways schemes covering carriageway construction, surfacing, waterproofing structures, expansion joints, drainage, parapets, VRS, ducting and associated infrastructure works.

The role will be based around the Guildford area, although the successful candidate will be required to cover National Highways projects across the wider region, potentially including Hampshire and Oxford. This position will involve working both days and nights depending on project requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Section Engineer with strong setting out experience and a good understanding of highways works to join a supportive contractor offering long-term progression and development.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years' setting out experience on infrastructure projects
  • Highways experience with a main contractor is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of setting out using total stations and GPS equipment
  • Ability to undertake traditional setting out using profiles, batter rails and pegs
  • Good understanding of ITPs, QA processes and specification documents
  • Ability to read and review construction drawings
  • Experience carrying out basic take-offs
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently
  • Good commercial understanding and awareness of cost and value
  • CSCS card in the relevant discipline
  • SSSTS, First Aid, NRSWA and Cat & Genny desirable
  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent qualification desirable
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel across the region and work days or nights when required
Job Duties
  • Setting out highways works using total stations, GPS equipment and traditional methods
  • Reviewing construction drawings and raising technical queries where required
  • Supporting the delivery of highways schemes across carriageways, drainage, surfacing, structures and associated works
  • Carrying out inspections and testing to ensure works are completed in line with design and specification
  • Managing quality assurance documentation, ITPs and site records
  • Supporting site teams and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely and efficiently
  • Undertaking basic take-offs and assisting with material requirements
  • Liaising with designers, client representatives and internal project teams
  • Monitoring progress and ensuring works are completed to the required technical standard
  • Maintaining a strong awareness of programme, commercial impact and buildability
