An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Architect to join a well-established RIBA Chartered Practice based in Colchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced job-running Architect looking to take ownership of projects across a diverse portfolio whilst joining a growing practice with an excellent reputation. This role would also suit an ambitious Project Architect who is looking for a step up in their career.

Our client is a long-established architectural practice employing around 20 staff and working across Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Education, Healthcare, Mixed-use and masterplanning projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Architect capable of leading projects from concept through to completion. The business continues to grow and offers genuine long-term career progression for ambitious individuals.

The successful Senior Architect will be a confident designer with strong technical ability as well as proven experience running projects independently. This is not a purely technical production role; the practice is looking for someone who enjoys front-end design, client interaction and taking ownership throughout every RIBA stage. With their broad portfolio projects range in size and value from approximately £250,000 through to £30 million.

Senior Architect Overview
  • Lead architectural projects from RIBA Stages 0 -7
  • Produce strong concept designs and planning submissions
  • Take full responsibility for delivering projects from inception through to completion
  • Liaise directly with clients, consultants, contractors and local authorities
  • Attend client meetings and site visits
  • Coordinate project teams and oversee project delivery
  • Prepare detailed drawings and technical packages
  • Ensure projects are delivered on programme and within budget
  • Mentor junior members of the architectural team where appropriate
  • Support business development and maintain existing client relationships
Senior Architect Requirements
  • ARB Registered Architect with significant post-Part III UK experience (typically 5+ years)
  • Demonstrable experience acting as a Project Architect / Job Runner
  • Strong design ability combined with excellent technical knowledge
  • Experience delivering projects throughout all RIBA work stages
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills
  • Comfortable managing contractors and consultants throughout project delivery
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and planning processes
  • Commercially aware with excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Good knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD or Sketchup
  • Live within a commutable distance of Colchester
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 doe (Potentially more for a candidate with very strong experience)
