Mechanical Design Engineer required for a specialist manufacturer of bespoke automation and special-purpose machinery based in West Sussex. Our client is a well-established engineering business that designs and manufactures innovative automated production equipment and robotic systems supplied to customers across the UK and internationally.

Position Overview

  • Design and development of bespoke automated machinery and robotic systems using SolidWorks
  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and Bills of Materials
  • Design mechanical components, fabricated assemblies, machined parts and pneumatic systems
  • Support new product development and continuous improvement projects
  • Work closely with electrical, controls, manufacturing and production teams
  • Participate in design reviews and technical problem-solving activities
  • Support machine build, testing and commissioning activities when required

Position Requirements

  • HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Previous experience within a machinery, automation, robotics or special-purpose equipment environment
  • Proficient with 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication and assembly
  • Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and BOMs
  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems and automated machinery would be advantageous
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Position Remuneration

  • Salary £40,000 - £45,000 DOE
