The Opportunity
Due to ongoing growth and operational development, a well-established construction materials group is looking to appoint a Transport & Compliance Coordinator to support its Operations and Facilities function. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to a proactive and motivated individual with previous transport or fleet management experience who enjoys working across compliance, operations and facilities. The position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of a national HGV fleet while also supporting wider operational initiatives across the business.
Role Overview
Reporting into the Group Operations Manager, the role is split broadly as follows:
- 50% Transport & Fleet Compliance
- 50% Operations, Facilities & H&S Support
The role is consultative in nature, working closely with branch managers and drivers nationally to ensure compliance with driver regulations, vehicle standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Transport & Fleet Management- Proactively manage a national fleet of Class 2 HGVs (circa 9 vehicles)
- Arrange vehicle servicing, repairs, inspections and MOTs
- Monitor driver hours, tachograph downloads, infringements and debriefs
- Carry out driver audits and licence checks in line with FORS requirements
- Investigate and report on vehicle incidents and near misses
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Operator Licence obligations
- Maintain accurate transport and compliance records using internal systems
- Support site inspections, audits and safety reviews
- Assist with the implementation of transport and health & safety policies
- Liaise with contractors regarding site facilities and maintenance works
- Coordinate with utility providers where required
- Provide central operational support to branch locations nationally
- Assist with general operations and facilities-related tasks as required
Candidate Requirements
Essential- Previous experience in a transport, fleet, compliance or operations-based role
- Working knowledge of driver hours regulations, tachographs and transport legislation
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to challenge and influence stakeholders constructively
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel
- Proactive, self-motivated and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
- Experience managing commercial vehicles or HGV fleets
- Knowledge of Health & Safety systems and procedures
- Previous experience within construction materials, builders' merchants or a related sector
- Full UK driving licence
- Working towards or holding CPC (advantageous but not essential)
- Previous HGV licence (desirable, not essential)
